Last March, CBS renewed the Mark Burnett-produced series for seasons 23 and 24, the two cycles for 2011-12. The 23rd season is currently averaging a 3.3 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 11.08 million viewers. It’s down by 12% year-to-year but is still the highest-rated reality series on the network. Cycle 24 will debut on Wednesday, February 15th.
Now, the Tiffany network has renewed Survivor for two more rounds which will keep the show on the air through the 2012-13 season. There’s no word yet as to where the upcoming competitions will be held.
Jeff Probst, who’s scheduled to launch a daytime talk show in Fall of 2012, will be back as both the host and as an executive producer. CBS and CBS TV Distribution, which will produce the talk show, have made scheduling arrangements so he’ll be able to juggle both shows.
Probst has won four Emmy Awards as “Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Series” for Survivor and isn’t ready to give up on telling departing contestants that “the tribe has spoken.” In a statement, Probst said, “I am thrilled to continue working on the longest-running reality competition show with the world’s greatest adventure crew for two more seasons.”
The reality show has been on the air since May 2000 and it looks like it will be around to “outwit, outplay and outlast” other shows for a long time to come.
