SWAT has some new company. Deadline reports Jay Harrington (pictured), Lina Esco, and Kenny Johnson have joined the CBS series pilot.
Originally based on the 1975 series from Aaron Spelling, the action drama will follow “a locally born and bred S.W.A.T. lieutenant torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers when he’s tasked to run a highly-trained unit that is the last stop for solving crimes in Los Angeles.” A 2003 movie adaptation starred Samuel L. Jackson. Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, and LL Cool J.
Harrington has been cast as David “Deacon” Kay, a veteran SWAT officer who’s been given a chance lead his own squad. Esco will play Chris, “a skilled officer and exceedingly calm under pressure” and Johnson has been cast as “Luca, the team’s expert driver and a skilled combat officer himself.” They join fellow castmember Shemar Moore.
