Switched at Birth revolves around two families who discover that two daughters have been switched as infants and have been living in the wrong households. The large cast of this ABC Family series includes Vanessa Marano, Daphne Vasquez, Lea Thompson, D. W. Moffett, Lucas Grabeel, Constance Marie, Ivonne Coll, Sean Berdy, and Marlee Matlin.
The TV series debuted in June 2011 to a very healthy 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.3 million total viewers. The numbers declined but they were apparently strong enough for ABC Family to add a whopping 22 episodes to the first season order, bringing the total to 32 installments.
The 22 episodes that have aired to date have averaged a 0.9 demo rating with 2.25 million total viewers. The remaining episodes are scheduled to start airing on September 3rd. In addition, Hyperion will release a Switched at Birth book, a memoir authored by character Kathryn Kennish (Lea Thompson). It’ll be available online on August 28th.
There’s no word on how many episodes ABC Family has ordered for season two or when they’re expected to bow.
