Take Me Out is hosted by comic George Lopez and is based on a British series of the same name. It’s a fast-paced dating show in which 30 single women are introduced to new bachelors one by one. Each lady must decide if she’s interested in the guy based on his appearance and what he tells the crowd. Once all of the ladies have given the guy a thumbs up or down, the bachelor then starts to eliminate women based on his preferences. By the end, there’s one guy-girl match and the process begins again with a new man.
The TV series debuted on June 7th to a disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.26 million viewers. Over the course of the next few weeks, the ratings have dwindled even lower. Last week’s episode hit a new low and drew a 1.0 in the demo with 2.32 million viewers.
FOX has decided to pull Take Me Out from Thursday nights after tonight’s installment. The network ordered eight episodes so that will leave three originals remaining. They’ll start running next Saturday, July 14th, at 9pm. The season finale will air on July 26th.
The network has opted to fill the Thursdays at 8pm timeslot with original installments of Howie Mandel’s Mobbed for the next three weeks. The season finale will run on July 26th.
Mobbed was supposedly renewed for next season but that was based on FOX having leftover episodes from season one. It will remain to be seen if the network will actually put the hidden-camera show back in production.
It seems very likely however that FOX will cancel Take Me Out. It’s the network’s lowest-rated series of the summer and there’s simply no reason to bring it back.
UPDATE: FOX later changed their plans and is keeping Take Me Out on Thursdays. Repeats of Mobbed will air on Saturday, as was originally planned.
