The Carrie Diaries: Season Two Renewal From The CW

Carrie Diaries season twoYoung Carrie Bradshaw will be back next season. It could have been cancelled but The CW has decided to renew The Carrie Diaries for a second season.

A prequel to Sex and the City, the show started off with mediocre ratings (by CW standards) and they got worse as the season progressed. The second-to-last episode of the season saw Carrie Diaries hit a new demo low — a 0.3 rating with 870,000 viewers.

The 13 episode season ended up averaging a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with just 1.14 million total viewers.

Still, The CW doesn’t derive as large a percentage of its revenue from on-air commercial time as the other networks. Streaming provides a significant amount of money for The CW which has a five-year, $75 million deal with Hulu. They also have a four-year $1 billion dollar deal with Netflix which began in 2011.

The Carrie Diaries, like fellow low-rated series Nikita, is very popular with online viewers.

There’s no word yet on how many episodes The CW will order for season two.

What do you think? Are you glad that The Carrie Diaries has been renewed for a second season? Do you think they’ll order 13 or 22 episodes?
