The Good Wife: On Track for Season Three Renewal

Good WifeIt may be hard to believe but The Good Wife is one of CBS’ weakest shows when it comes to the 18-49 demographic. Despite having devoted fans and the love of critics, the series averages a 2.2 rating in the all-important demo category. With the exception of the Friday night line-up, The Good Wife is the lowest-rated scripted series still on the network.

Not to worry though, its looking like a sure thing that The Good Wife will be back for a third season. CBS hasn’t announced it yet but the Julianna Margulies drama will be on the schedule for 2011-12.

Alan Cumming recently signed a new deal that locks him in as a series regular for seasons three, four, and five. Though this is no guarantee that the series will go on that long, CBS wouldn’t bother to make a new long-term deal with him if they weren’t going to renew the show for next season.

In addition, Josh Charles just told AOL TV that he and others in the cast are going to attend CBS’ advertiser upfronts session next week in New York. As the actor notes, “I’m imagining they’re not inviting us to tell us we’re not picked up, you know?”

The CBS upfronts will be held next week, the afternoon of May 18th. You can bookmark our CBS cancel/renew list to keep up.

What do you think? Do you want The Good Wife to return next season? Would you like to see anything change? Why do you think it’s not getting better ratings?
