The Kicker: CBS Orders Comedy Pilot from 30 Rock Team

CBS TV shows

CBS has ordered a TV show pilot for the multi-cam comedy, The Kicker. Writer Jack Burditt, a 30 Rock vet, will EP with that show’s Tina Fey and Robert Carlock — a duo who whose history goes back to their Saturday Night Live years. The Kicker features a quirky jock who, when cut from his pro football team, makes everyone in his path nuts.

Burditt has written for the Fey-Carlock created comedy, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which Netflix recently renewed for a third season. One of his earlier TV writing gigs was on David Spade’s Just Shoot Me!, so The Kicker‘s SNL roots go deep.

Per Deadline, The Kicker hails from Universal TV and Fey’s Little Stranger studio. Deadline adds:

This makes it 2-for-2 for Fey’s Little Stranger production company whose single-camera comedy written by another 30 Rock alum, Tracey Wigfield, also has a pilot order at NBC. Fey also executive produces it with Carlock and Miner.

The real question remains: is The Kicker a placekicker or a punter?

What do you think? Do you like the sound of The Kicker TV show? Who would you like to see cast in the title role? If CBS orders The Kicker TV series, do you plan to check it out?
