The Mindy Project: FOX Orders Six More Episodes

The Mindy Project TV show on FOXFOX has ordered six more episodes of The Mindy Project. The network had initially ordered 15 installments so there will now be 21 episodes, essentially a full season.

On The Mindy Project, a talented obstetrician (Mindy Kaling) has a chaotic personal life and struggles to find the elusive perfect relationship. Her workmates are played by Chris Messina, Ed Weeks, Adam Palley, Ike Barinholtz, Beth Grant, and Xosha Roquemore.

The sitcom is currently in its third season and continues to struggle in the ratings. It’s the network’s second-lowest rated scripted series and currently averages a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.4 million viewers.

Why order more episodes? FOX touts that The Mindy Project gets significant multi-platform and DVR gains. It’s also popular with women 18-34. The series will now have filmed 67 episodes at the end of the season. It’s possible that Universal is making an attractive financial deal with FOX to keep it going long enough to accumulate enough episodes for a syndication package.

What do you think? Do you like The Mindy Project on FOX? Why do you think they keep renewing the show?
