The Mysteries of Laura revolves around a brilliant-but-harried NYPD homicide detective (Debra Messing) who must also juggle raising her young twin boys as a single mom. The rest of the cast includes Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar, Max Jenkins, Callie Thorne, and Med Steedle.
The series began airing in Fall 2014 and the network no doubt had high expectations for the show. The first season ended up averaging a 1.22 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.45 million viewers. It was hardly an impressive showing but NBC renewed it for a second season anyway, likely hoping that the audience would grow in time.
Season two of Mysteries of Laura doesn’t seem to have attracted any new viewers but the cop family drama hasn’t lost many either. Year-to-year, the ratings are down less than 10% which is pretty good considering how much other dramas have been losing. Still, the ratings are far from good.
Laura is one of NBC’s lowest-rated drama series right now and is one of the few that’s yet to be cancelled or renewed for next season. Looking at the numbers, they could certainly go either way with this one. Their decision will likely have a lot to do with how their new show pilots look. We’ll know what they decide in May at the latest.
But, what do you think? Should Mysteries of Laura be renewed for a third season or cancelled instead?
