The Smurfs: Watch the New Movie Trailer

You knew it would come sooner or later. Sony has a released a Smurfy new trailer for the upcoming live-action/CGI version of The Smurfs. Based on the work of Peyo and the 1980’s Hanna-Barbera animated series, the movie revolves around the cute blue creatures ending up in our world while continuing to be pursued by evil Gargamel (Hank Azaria) and his cat, Azrael.

The Smurfs movie stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays and Sofia Vergara with Tim Gunn and Frank Langella, as the narrator. The voice cast includes Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Katy Perry as Smurfette, Alan Cumming as Gutsy, Anton Yelchin as Clumsy, Fred Armisen as Brainy, George Lopez as Grouchy, Gary Basaraba as Hefty, John Oliver as Vanity, Paul Reubens as Jokey, Kenan Thompson as Greedy, B. J. Novak as Baker, Jeff Foxworthy as Handy, and Wolfgang Puck as Chef Smurf.

Directed by Raja Gosnell with a screenplay by J. David Stern and David N. Weiss, the film is scheduled to be released to conventional and 3D theaters on August 3, 2011.
