The Voice: UK Version to End on BBC

The Voice UK

BBC is cutting the chords on The Voice. According to Deadline, the network has lost the UK version of the popular singing competition show to a rival network.

The series began airing on BBC One in 2012 and ended its fourth season this spring. BBC’s fifth and last season of The Voice will air in January 2016 with hosts will.i.am, Paloma Faith, Ricky Wilson, and Boy George.

The Mirror reports that it was ITV that outbid BBC for the series, but the network has not made an official announcement.

Meanwhile, the American Voice continues to boost ratings for NBC as one of the network’s most popular franchises. The series is currently in the midst of its ninth season, with a tenth already ordered.

From BBC executive Mark Linsey:

The BBC is incredibly proud of The Voice, but the fifth series which starts in January will be our last.

We always said we wouldn’t get into a bidding war or pay inflated prices to keep the show, and it’s testament to how the BBC has built the programme up – and established it into a mainstay of the Saturday night schedule – that another broadcaster has poached it.”

What do you think? Do you watch The Voice UK? Are you sad to see it leave the BBC?
