Time After Time: Cancelled Soon? Should ABC Pull the Low-Rated Series?

Time After Time TV show on ABC: canceled soon? season 2 possible?Time travel seems to be a very popular concept with the TV execs and three time travel shows have launched this season. Unfortunately, the public seems to be less interested. Timeless looks likely to be cancelled by NBC and Making History is performing poorly for FOX. What about Time After Time on ABC? How’s it doing in the ratings? Will there be a second season?

An hourlong drama, Time After Time stars Freddie Stroma, Josh Bowman, Génesis Rodríguez, Nicole Ari Parker, Will Chase, Jordan Sparks, and Jennifer Ferrin. The ABC series follows the young H.G. Wells (Stroma) and his journey via his incredible time machine. Wells is in hot pursuit of the brilliant and engaging surgeon, Dr. John Stevenson (Bowman), a.k.a. “Jack the Ripper.” It is in present-day New York City that he meets philanthropist Vanessa Anders. She is the current owner of Wells’ time machine and may also be his great-granddaughter. Assistant museum curator Jane Walker (Rodríguez) joins Wells on his dangerous search for the man now known as “The Key Killer.”

The series launched on March 5th with a pair of episodes and attracted a 0.65 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.54 million viewers. Those are very poor ratings for a network series. Unfortunately, they next episodes performed even worse.

Last Sunday’s installment drew a 0.44 in the demo with 1.79 million viewers. Those are CW-like ratings and the series is one of the network’s lowest-rated shows.

ABC will surely cancel Time After Time and, with horrific numbers like these, I also suspect they’ll pull it off the schedule.

Hopefully, the network will release the remaining installments online so the viewers who do like the series can see them.

3/29 update: ABC has essentially cancelled the Sunday night series. Details here.

What do you think? Do you think that ABC should cancel Time After Time? Should they pull the series or let all of the episodes air on Sunday nights?
