The Tiffany Network’s big summertime performer is its long-running reality TV series, Big Brother. Now CBS has introduced the TKO: Total Knock Out TV show, for a different kind of unscripted series fun. In its first season, can this new program run the gauntlet that is the Nielsen ratings? A CBS reality TV show competition, TKO: Total Knock Out is an obstacle course competition from executive producers Mark Burnett, Barry Poznick, Kevin Hart, Holly Wofford, and Jane Y. Mun. Hart also serves as host on the unscripted reality TV series, which features players from all walks of life. As one contestant races through the obstacle course, the competitors man battle stations along the way. From there, they fire projectiles, in an attempt to knock the racer off of the course and slow his or her progress. The one to complete the course in the shortest time wins a cash prize.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
