ABC has ordered a TV show comedy pilot, Toast, from Shondaland. Toast is written by Scandal and Felicity‘s Scott Foley with Greg Grunberg, late of the recently cancelled Heroes Reborn.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers will executive produce. THR says, “Foley and Grunberg came up with the story, with Foley penning the teleplay.”
From Deadline:
Toast marks the first half-hour pilot order for Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ Shondaland, which had been looking to expand in comedy. [… Toast] was originally developed during the 2014-15 season and was rolled. The two executive produce with Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimeses and Betsy Beers. None will act.
Toast revolves around engaged couple Max and Paige who, over their wedding rehearsal dinner, have their eclectic family and friends give toasts recalling anecdotes about the couple — but flashbacks reveal that the toasts don’t always get it right, as we watch the true story of their complicated, funny and relatable road to marriage. Foley has recurred on Rhimes’ Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.
What do you think? Are you a Shondaland fan? Do you like the sound of the Toast TV show? If it makes it to series, do you think you will check it out?
