What’s This TV Show About?

Streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt stars Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Carol Kane, Jane Krakowski, Jon Hamm, Fred Armisen, and Mike Carlsen. Along with three other women, Kimmy Schmidt (Kemper) was held by Indiana doomsday cult leader, the Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne (Hamm) for fifteen years. Upon her release, she’s interviewed by Matt Lauer on Today. Resolving to reject the “victim” label, Kimmy decides not to return to the Midwest. Armed with little more than an eighth grade education, light-up Sketchers, an over abundance of optimism, and a new, quirky circle of friends, Kimmy takes on New York City.  

 

 

Telly’s Take

Because Nielsen doesn’t track streaming platform ratings, it is hard to gauge the performance of TV shows like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, unless Netflix decides to publicize its success. Still, this sitcom is critically well received, has a stellar cast, and no problem attracting big name guest stars, like Jon Hamm, as well as co-creator Tina Fey. While I’m flying blind here, I expect Netflix will renew Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for a fourth season. Subscribe for free updates for any cancellation or renewal news.
