Last year, CBS aired two Undercover Boss episodes featuring celebrities Darius Rucker and Marcus Samuelsson. They served as the “backdoor” pilot for the new Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition TV show. Can this star-powered version make it as a whole new show, or would it be best as an occasional special? Just like the original CBS reality TV series, on Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition, the cameras follow someone going undercover. In the new show though, instead of investigating their own businesses, the celebrities are looking for talent in their respective fields of expertise. Celebrities in the first season include Gabby Douglas, Idina Menzel, Bethany Mota, and Deion Sanders. The format employs state-of-the-art disguises, including wigs, makeup, and prosthetics which can take two to three hours to apply.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
