Up All Night: NBC Cuts Sitcom Episodes

up all nightFollowing the surprising departure of Christina Applegate, NBC has decided to reduce their episode order for low-rated sitcom Up All Night.

Months ago, the network announced their plan to try to save the TV series by converting it from a single-camera comedy to a multi-camera traditional sitcom. Work had been going on behind the scenes to make this transition when Applegate quit.

There were five episodes left to shoot in this season but, now that they’ve lost one of their stars, the network has decided to cut that down to one episode. It will shoot on Friday and be helmed by master sitcom director James Burrows. The network will use the episode as a pilot of sorts to help them determine if Up All Night will continue.

Meanwhile, co-stars Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph are getting offers to star in new pilots. There’s still no word on if Applegate’s role will be recast or if the show would go on without her character.

What do you think? Would you be interested in seeing the multi-camera episode? If NBC wants to continue with the show, how should Applegate’s departure be handled?
