The Vampire Diaries: Eighth Season Renewal for CW Series

tvd

Get ready for another year of biting and trouble with the gang from Mystic Falls. The CW renewed the long-running series, The Vampire Diaries, which stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, for an eighth season.

This renewal ends the speculation that the series would be cancelled and season seven would be its last. That speculation began when the network announced that The Vampire Diaries and The Originals would move to Friday nights. That move happened to kick off the second half of season seven.

The move has actually given the two series new life, according to Entertainment Weekly. That news outlet reported that “the Julie Plec vampire dramas have improved Friday night by 39 percent in total viewers and 60 percent in the demo versus the same time last year.”

Both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals are on a brief break, but the final stretch of episodes for season seven of Vampire Diaries will start to air on April 1.

The other series renewed today by CW are The Flash, Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Originals, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, iZombie, Reign, Supernatural, and The 100.
