We’re sorry to report The CW has declined to order the Wayward Sisters TV show to series. The project would have been a spin-off to the network’s successful, long-lived Supernatural and aired as a backdoor pilot, during the current season of the original program. It did well in the ratings and drew a lot of social media attention, so the decision not to move forward is frustrating to the cast and crew — and to fans as well (this writer among them).
Developed by Andrew Dabb and Robert Berens, Wayward Sisters stars Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Kathryn Newton, Katherine Ramdeen, Clark Backo, and Yadira Guevara-Prip. Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles co-starred in the Wayward Sisters pilot, which aired as episode 13.10 of Supernatural on January 18, 2018, on The CW. The entire Supernatural cast, including Misha Collins, as well as recurring players like Samantha Smith, Ruth Connell, and Richard Speight, Jr. made a point to show vocal support for the spin-off — but to no avail.
In Wayward Sisters, Sheriff Jody Mills (Rhodes) fosters Claire Novak (Newton), Alex Jones (Ramdeen), and Patience Turner (Blacko) — young women whose families have all been devastated by supernatural deaths. Along with Sheriff Donna Hanscum (Buckmaster), they form a fierce, female fighting force. Berens confirmed the disappointing news. Check out his message, below.

Because sometimes social media posts disappear, here is the text of Berens’ heartfelt message:
I have some bad news. The CW has decided not to proceed with a series order for Wayward Sisters.
Honestly — I’m heartbroken. I’m confused. And, at least for the moment — I’m angry.
Getting the chance to branch out and explore this world and these characters within our #Supernatural universe this past year was the most enjoyable and exciting creative experience of my life. Seeing Jody, Donna, Claire, and Alex step it up to icon status, while overseeing the genesis of Patience and Kaia, was an unalloyed joy.
And it all began with you. I can’t imagine a higher honor than getting the chance to carry the torch of YOUR passion for this idea, for these women. I am, frankly, gutted that I couldn’t bring it all the way across the finish line for you.
You made that episode and that beautiful potentiality happen. You did it. And I will never stop being grateful to you for giving us that chance.
