John Quiñones is back with more of the What Would You Do? TV show. The investigative series first began as part of ABC’s Primetime newsmagazine as Primetime: What Would You Do?. Eventually though, the network shortened the title to stand on its own. After a significant ratings drop two years ago, in 2017, the demo fell off at a more respectable rate, while the total viewership average stayed about the same. How will it do, this time out? Will What Would You Do? be cancelled or renewed for another season? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
Hosted by Quiñones, What Would You Do? explores how people react to strangers in uncomfortable circumstances. With hidden cameras at the ready, actors play out various scenarios, in front of unwitting bystanders. The ABC TV series delves into how and when people feel they must intervene and when and why they choose to mind their own business. Quiñones reports about how they made their decisions. Scenarios in 2018 include a same-sex engagement announcement, dating violence, drunk driving, agism, and more.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The Summer 2017 season of What Would You Do? on ABC averaged a 0.67 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.252 million total viewers. Those numbers were down by 9.09% and 0.52%, respectively.
