Where Are They Now? Some Green Room Chatter for March 20, 2008

Some of our favorite shows may be dead and gone but the actors who played the characters are still around. You never know where they might pop up. Check out the latest news from the green room…

Rick Worthy (Star Trek: Enterprise) has picked up a supporting role in Tony Gilroy’s Duplicity movie. The film stars Clive Owen and Julia Roberts as two formerly-involved corporate spies who reunite to pull off the ultimate con job.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon kept himself busy during the writers strike by penning an Internet series called Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog. Three 10 minute episodes will follow “a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to.” The cast includes Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser, M.D., currently How I Met Your Mother) as Dr. Horrible, Nathan Fillion (Firefly, currently Desperate Housewives) as superhero Captain Hammer, and Felicia Day (Buffy) as Penny.

Michelle Trachtenberg is joining the cast of CW’s Gossip Girl. The Buffy alum will be playing Georgina Sparks, a big troublemaker from Serena’s past that appears in the books on which the TV show is based.

Brad Rowe (Leap of Faith) is starring in and producing an indie film called For Better or For Worse. Directed by Joshua Tunick, the comedy follows a gay couple whose family threatens to wreck their wedding. Others TV vets in the cast include Chad Allen (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Janeane Garofalo (The Larry Sanders Show), Rebecca Gayheart (Vanished), Soleil Moon Frye (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), and Patrick Muldoon (Melrose Place).

Kurtwood Smith (That ’70s Show) and Nancy Lenehan (Grace Under Fire) are joining the cast of a CBS pilot called Worst Week. The sitcom tells the story of a guy named Sam, played by Kyle Bornheimer, who’s having a really bad week. He goes on vacation with his fiancee, played by Erinn Hayes (The Winner), and her parents (Smith and Lenehan).

Michael Cera (Arrested Development) is in final talks to star in Universal’s Scott Pilgrim’s Little Life. Edgar Wright will direct the film that follows a young slacker who finds the girl of his dreams but must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends in battle to win her heart.

CBS has given the go-ahead for a dramatic pilot starring Commander in Chief’s Geena Davis. In Exit 19, she’ll star as a quirky homicide detective who balances her work on the tough streets of New York with her life as a Long Island mom raising two kids.

Kirstie Alley (Fat Actress) has signed a development deal with Oprah Winfrey’s production company. The details of the contract are under wraps but it looks like hosting a daily talk show is in Alley’s future.

Knots Landing’s Kevin Dobson is joining the cast of NBC’s Days of Our Lives playing Mickey Horton. The character was originated by John Clarke. Clarke left the role after almost 40 years and was replaced by Richard Voigts (for two weeks) and John Ingle (for two years).

Mork returns! Well, sort of. Oscar-winner Robin Williams (Mork & Mindy) has signed on to play a charismatic and evil mastermind on Law & Order: SVU’s 200th episode. The special episode will air on April 29th.

Look for Jason Lewis (Sex and the City) to guest on an upcoming episode of FOX’s House. He’ll be playing the star of Dr. House’s favorite soap who starts to exhibit strange symptoms on the air.

Justine Bateman (Family Ties) is joining the cast of ABC’s Desperate Housewives for multiple episodes. She’ll be playing a hip artist who moves in with Gabby and Carlos. There’s no word yet on when they’ll start airing but new episodes of Housewives will kick off April 13th. Stay tuned!
