Will & Grace: Two Beloved Characters Will Be Missing from the NBC Revival

Who’s not returning to Will & Grace? According to The Hollywood Reporter, two key characters will be missing from the upcoming NBC revival.

Today, the network announced the sitcom has been renewed for a 10th season ahead of season nine’s premiere this fall. The sitcom revival will see the return of lead stars Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally.

While Will, Grace, Jack, and Karen are back, it looks like Karen’s right-hand woman, Rosario (Shelley Morrison), will not appear in the NBC revival. At this summer’s TCA press conference, co-creator Max Mutchnick explained why:

Shelley has decided to retire. It was with a heavy heart that she gave us that information and that we received it, but it is the way that it goes. It is a choice that she has made. We really wanted Shelley to be a part of this series, so we find ourselves having to figure that out moving forward. It was not an easy decision to make, but it’s one that she made.”

Mutchnick also revealed that the revival will address the absence of Grace’s mom, Bobbi Adler, who was played by the late Debbie Reynolds:

That was another part of the story that we had to really spend time on addressing, all of the characters that existed in 198 episodes. She’s obviously not coming back, but we will be speaking to it and the characters will be speaking to it.”

The new season of Will & Grace premieres on NBC on September 28th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
