And Just Like That… returns for its second season on the Max streaming service later this week, and it’s already been reported that one of the episodes will feature a brief cameo by Kim Cattrall, reprising her Sex and the City character, Samatha Jones. It was reported earlier this month that the actress filmed a short scene for an episode near the end of the series.
This news surprised viewers because the actress made it clear that she had no interest in being a part of the series and hadn’t been asked to return anyway. Following the release of the 2010 sequel film, Sex and the City 2, rumors of a feud between Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker made the news.
Without specifically naming Cattrall, Parker said that bringing Sex and the City characters back has been joyful. She said, “We’ve been really thoughtful about the ways in which we’ve, you know, approached characters that hadn’t been around, the ways we have invited actors back and it’s been, you know, really fun and exciting and certainly nostalgic, but I think more than that, it’s been a lot of joy.”
Davis also spoke about Cattrall’s return and wanted to make sure viewers don’t have too great expectations. She said the following, per Daily Mail:
“We just thought that, you know, it would be fun for the fans to have a little bit of Samantha because we know that they miss her and she’s a great character.
I don’t know that we’re even trying for closure at this point, or resolution. I think we just thought you know, here is, you know, our character who’s been gone. And we know people miss her and Carrie misses her…
And wouldn’t this be great to have a little bit of her, you know, that’s what we wanted. And then I think maybe hopes have been lifted, possibly higher than that. And that was not our intention. So I hope people aren’t disappointed.”
Starring Parker, Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Sara Ramírez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Christopher Jackson, Niall Cunningham, Cathy Ang, and Alexa Swinton, the series follows Carrie and her friends as they deal with life in their 50s.
The new season of And Just Like That will feature the return of Aidan Shaw, played by John Corbett. His return has fans wondering if Carrie and Aidan will finally end up together following the death of her husband, Mr. Big.
What do you think? Are you excited to see Cattrall on season two of And Just Like That… on Max? Are you hoping that she returns for season three if there is one?
