Archer: FX Series To Be Renewed for Season Three

According to Vulture, FX is close to renewing their animated spy comedy, Archer. They report that negotiations have been underway for awhile and may be finalized in time for FX’s upfront presentation to advertisers this week. If all goes according to plan, the spies of ISIS could even get a multiple season renewal.

Archer performed okay in its first season on the air and has been doing a bit better in season two. Season one premiered in January of 2010 and the 10 episodes averaged a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 0.97 million viewers. That’s a far cry from the success of some of the cable channel’s other fare but they renewed the series for season two in February 2010.

Of that renewal, Nick Grad, FX’s Executive VP of Original Programming, said, “Executive Producers Adam Reed and Matt Thompson are delivering a hilarious series and it truly earned a second season. H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Chris Parnell and Judy Greer comprise one of the best voice casts of any animated series on TV. We’re very happy with the audience response and critical acclaim for Archer and are excited to move forward with it.”

Archer is still popular with some critics and this season has been averaging a 0.5 rating and 1.09 million viewers. There are four episodes left in season two.

UPDATE: Archer has been renewed for a third season of 16 episodes. Some installments will air this fall, following episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The remainder will air in early 2012.
