What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the CBS television network, The Big Bang Theory centers on two academically brilliant, yet socially deficient friends and Caltech physicists, Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons). Leonard is smitten with their beautiful neighbor, Penny (Kaley Cuoco), and they eventually marry. Sheldon finds romantic interest with neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik). Engineer Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) marries microbiologist Bernadette Rostenkowski (Melissa Rauch) and they start a family. Meanwhile, astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) is still looking for his own match.
Season Ten Ratings
The Big Bang Theory season 10 averaged a 3.10 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 14.03 million viewers. Compared to season nine, the sitcom is down by 17% in the demo and has dropped 8% in terms of average total audience size. Find out how The Big Bang Theory stacks up against the other CBS TV shows.
On March 20, 2017, The Big Bang Theory was renewed through season 12.

Telly’s Take
While it has dropped in the ratings over the past decade, The Big Bang Theory is The Tiffany Network’s strongest performer in the important 18-49 year old viewer demographic. In addition, the sitcom remains one of the most watched CBS TV shows and continues to be a big money-maker in syndication. At the beginning of season 10, Kaley Cuoco laughed and agreed with Jimmy Kimmel, when he suggested 10 seasons were enough. Still, in October, we reported CBS was negotiating with the cast for an 11th season.
I feel confident saying The Big Bang Theory will be renewed for season 11, as long as the network and stars can reach an agreement. There’s still plenty of money to be made and this could end up being the longest running live-action sitcom in US television history. 3/20 update: The Big Bang Theory was renewed for season 11 and season 12 on CBS.
