The Big Bang Theory: No Season 11 for Top CBS Sitcom?

big bang theory renewed

Is The Big Bang Theory ending soon? Recently, the Hollywood Reporter speculated that the next season of the popular CBS sitcom could be its last.

Currently, The Big Bang Theory is in the midst of their ninth season.

Though the series has been renewed for a season 10 in the 2016-2017 season, the show is already beginning to wrap up some of its longer-running storylines. Recently, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) sealed the deal in bed, and in the ninth season’s premiere, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) got married. Showrunner Steve Molaro spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the show’s possible ending:

I think so. I can’t speak to the future or on behalf of the cast or where we’ll be then but it’s certainly possible that it could go past that. The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point. The real answer is I don’t know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can. There’s still so many episodes to go. Even if hypothetically season 10 was the end, I wouldn’t be focusing on that yet. That seems like something that would be dealt with way down the line.”

Co-creator Chuck Lorre, whose other CBS sitcom Mike & Molly was just cancelled, said that nine seasons of Big Bang Theory have already exceeded his expectations:

I never imagined nine [seasons] and here we are. I’m not going to presume to know how many years this has because it’s ridiculous for me to guess. It’s already gone beyond my wildest dreams so anything beyond this … as long as everybody is having a good time and we’re making a show we’re proud of … then it’s worth continuing.”

While the series’ end is still up in the air, ratings for The Big Bang Theory have been high as usual. So far, the ninth season has averaged around 15.64 million viewers per episode.

What do you think? Do you watch The Big Bang Theory? When do you think the sitcom should end?
