What’s This TV Show About?

A Netflix British drama, Bodyguard stars Richard Madden, Keeley Hawes, Gina McKee, Sophie Rundle, Paul Ready, Vincent Franklin, Stuart Bowman, Nina Toussaint-White, Stephanie Hyam, Matt Stokoe, Pippa Haywood, Nicholas Gleaves, Shubham Saraf, Claire-Louise Cordwell, Richard Riddell, Ash Tandon, and Anjli Mohindra. The thriller centers on an Afghanistan war veteran, Sergeant David Budd (Madden), who is now working as a Specialist Protection Officer for the Royalty and Specialist Branch (RasP) of London’s Metropolitan Police Service. After he assists in thwarting a terrorist attack, Budd is assigned to protect Home Secretary Julia Montague (Hawes), who was a major proponent of the conflict in which he fought. Now the very life of this ambitious, powerful politician is in his hands.
 

 

Telly’s Take

Unless they decide to publicize viewership, it is difficult to predict whether Netflix will cancel or renew Bodyguard for season two. The series originally premiered on BBC One in August of 2018, so whether or not the British broadcaster decides to commission another installment is a significant piece of the cancelled-or-renewed puzzle. If BBC orders a second season, then Netflix has to determine whether the first one attracted enough viewers to pick it up. Assuming they do want to make another series (it did very well in UK), I think Netflix will renew it, because they have the global distribution rights, outside of UK and Ireland.
