The second half of the third season of Bridgerton arrived on Netflix today, and some viewers are wondering when they will see season four. While the alternate history drama has already been renewed, viewers have another long wait ahead of them.
Set in an alternative London Regency era in the early 1800s, Bridgerton follows a world where King George III has established racial equality. The third season follows Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), who has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. The cast also includes Claudia Jessie, Luke Thompson, Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh, Ruth Gemmell, Lorraine Ashbourne, Hannah Dodd, Simone Ashley, Jonathan Bailey, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Jessica Madsen, Florence Hunt, Martins Imhangbe, Will Tilston, Polly Walker, Julie Andrews, Hugh Sachs, Emma Naomi, Kathryn Drysdale, and Sam Phillips.
Showrunner Jess Brownell spoke about the future of the popular series with THR, and she revealed why there’s typically a two-year wait between seasons of Bridgerton:
“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language. And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.”
Which character will be at the center of the 2026 season? Brownell wouldn’t reveal the character’s identity but did say the following:
“I have almost slipped up a couple of times so keep asking, and maybe I’ll slip up. I’m really excited about what we’re writing. We’re towards the end with the writers room season, with the scripts. And I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers room’s best work. We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Bridgerton series? Do you plan to watch season four when it eventually arrives? Who would you like to see be at the center of the next story?
