Last year, the freshman outing of the Burden of Truth TV show on The CW didn’t exactly set the Nielsen ratings afire, but the series, which originates on Canada’s CBC, was not cancelled. Just days before the second season debuted, The CW also renewed it for Summer 2020, so the littlest network must be getting enough bang for its buck. Now, can the series bear the burden of The CW’s faith in it? Will Burden of Truth be cancelled or renewed beyond season three? Stay tuned.

A CW serial drama from creator Brad Simpson, Burden of Truth stars Kristin Kreuk, Peter Mooney, Star Slade, Meegwun Fairbrother, Anwen O’Driscoll, Sara Thompson, Michelle Nolden, and Varun Saranga. The series centers on attorney Joanna Hanley (Kreuk), who walked away from her partnership at a corporate law firm in order to figure out why a mysterious illness was afflicting high school girls in her home town of Millwood, Manitoba. By the end of season one, Joanna was estranged from her dad and changed her last name to Chang — her mother’s maiden name. In season two, she has joined a Winnipeg firm, where a new client involves her in a case full of political and cyber intrigue.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

For comparisons: The first season of Burden of Truth averaged a 0.14 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic and 723,000 viewers.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
