Based on the memoirs of midwife Jennifer Worth, Call The Midwife takes place in East London in the 1950s. The cast includes Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris, Miranda Hart, Judy Parfitt, Helen George, Bryony Hannah, Laura Main and Cliff Paris.
Production on the show’s fourth season recently wrapped. It consists of a Christmas special that will air on PBS on December 28th and eight installments that will debut on Sunday, March 29, 2015.
Season five will have a holiday special for 2015 and another eight episodes which will follow in 2016.
The renewal, which is for 8 episodes and a Christmas Special in 2015, comes ahead of the launch of this year’s Christmas special, with the show’s eight episode fourth season set to debut in early 2015.

The international success of the show is testament to the passion, dedication and skill of Heidi Thomas and the wonderfully talented cast and crew who have created a truly brilliant fourth series for our loyal viewers to enjoy on screen very soon.”
“Call the Midwife is one of UK’s most popular dramas and in series four Heidi Thomas’ writing meets new heights,” said the BBC’s Controller of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson. “I’m delighted to be commissioning a new [season] from Pippa Harris and Neal St Productions.”
