Chicago Justice: Justified’s Joelle Carter Cast in NBC Spin-Off

Call it just desserts. Justified‘s Joelle Carter has been cast as Lori Nagle in the Chicago Justice TV series pilot (previously referred to as Chicago Law). While Justified was not cancelled, the FX series ended after its sixth season. Creator and EP Graham Yost and star Timothy Olyphant, decided it was time.

Deadline describes Carter’s character as “a tough-as-nails investigator.” She joins Philip Winchester and Nazneen Contractor, who were previously cast. Chicago Justice is getting a backdoor pilot on Chicago P.D., season three, episode 21. Jean de Segonzac is set to direct. He has helmed other Dick Wolf pilots, including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

No name or description have been released yet for Winchester’s character, but he is reportedly headlining Chicago Justice, and was the first actor cast, last month. Yesterday, we reported Heroes Reborn‘s Contractor was also joining the spin-off pilot. Her role is also unknown.

If ordered to series, Chicago Justice will mark the fourth show in Wolf’s Chicago franchise, along with Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. NBC already renewed Wolf’s Law & Order: SVU TV series for an 18th season, on February 1. It is possible the prolific creator may well end up with five TV series airing on NBC, in the upcoming 2016-2017 television season.

Warren Leight has been showrunner at Law & Order: SVU since 2011. Today, we reported that Law & Order‘s co-executive producer, Rick Eid, will take the reins at that series. Eid was an executive producer on The Lottery TV series, which was cancelled after ten episodes on Lifetime. He also executive produced the CBS series, Hostages, which was cancelled after a first season of 15 episodes.

How do you think the Chicago Justice TV show cast cast is shaping up so far? Do you plan to watch the backdoor pilot? How many Chicago shows are too many? Let us know, below.
