On Cristela, a young Mexican-American woman (Cristela Alonzo) works to become an attorney while juggling her responsibilities to her traditional family. The rest of the cast includes Maria Canals-Barrera, Carlos Ponce, Terri Hoyos, Gabriel Iglesias, Sam McMurray, Justine Lupe, and Andrew Leeds.
Debuting on October 10th, the first episode of Cristela drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.51 million viewers. It was an okay start. The ratings dropped in weeks two and three but have now leveled off to about a 1.0 demo rating with around five million viewers.
That’s not very good for a Friday show but (these days) it’s not awful either. For comparisons, lead-in Last Man Standing, has been averaging a 1.3 demo rating with 6.76 million.
Though Cristela certainly isn’t a hit, ABC appears to be satisfied enough with the show’s performance to order nine more episodes, bringing the season tally to 22 episodes.
Unless the ratings improve, a second season renewal for Cristela seems like a longshot but that decision is now months away. Perhaps the ratings will improve before May.
What do you think? Do you like the Cristela TV show? Are you glad that ABC has ordered more episodes?
