dancing with the stars all stars ratingsTo help stave off declining ratings, ABC is airing an All-Stars edition of Dancing with the Stars this fall. Could this powerhouse actually be in danger of being cancelled — or at least cut back to one cycle per year?

The teams are Pamela Anderson & Tristan MacManus, Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Sabrina Bryan & Louis van Amstel, Hélio Castroneves & Chelsie Hightower, Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson, Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough, Drew Lachey & Anna Trebunskaya, Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd, Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy, Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff, Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas, Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, and Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke.

The 15th season of Dancing with the Stars typically airs Monday and Tuesday nights on the ABC network.

Here are the TV show’s ratings for the Fall 2012-13 season, the best way to tell if Dancing with the Stars is going to be cancelled or renewed for season 17.

Final season averages: 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 13.87 million total viewers.

Year-to-year, the season debut of Dancing with the Stars was down by an astounding 38% in the demo (vs a 4.0 rating) and 26% in viewers (vs 19.03 million). This represents a series low for performance episodes in both ratings categories. Total viewership is still impressive but the demo numbers are not good.


Reference point: The 2011-12 season averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.91 million viewers.

These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
