Last year, Dancing with the Stars was the highest rated series on ABC and saw significant growth year-over-year. Will viewership continue to rise in this anniversary season or will interest fall off? Could Dancing with the Stars be cancelled or is it sure to be renewed for season 36? Stay tuned.
A competition series, the Dancing with the Stars TV show is hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, with Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough serving as judges. On the show, celebrities are paired with professional dancers, and each couple performs predetermined dances. They compete against the other participants for judges’ points and audience votes. The couple that receives the lowest combined score is eliminated each week. By the end of the season, one couple will win the coveted trophy. Celebrities competing in cycle 35 are Tatyana Ali, Tyler Cameron, Giada De Laurentiis, Jenna Dewan, Ezra Frech, Amber Glenn, Taylor Hanson, Maura Higgins, Conner Leavitt, Ciara Miller, Sarah Jane Nader, Jackson Olson, Guillermo Rodriguez, Harry Shum Jr., Julia Stiles, and Connor Wood. The dancers are Brandon Armstrong, Rylee Arnold, Mark Ballas, Hailey Bills, Sharna Burgess, Alan Bersten, Witney Carson, Val Chmerkovskiy, Jenna Johnson, Daniella Karagach, Pasha Pashkov, Jan Ravnik, Emma Slater, Ezra Sosa, Britt Stewart, and Adele Zaikman.

The Nielsen ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances of survival. This chart is updated as new ratings data becomes available.

For comparisons: Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars on ABC averaged a 1.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.49 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
