Dead Boy Detectives: DC Drama Series from Greg Berlanti Moves from HBO Max to Netflix

Dead Boy Detectives TV Show on Netflix: canceled or renewed?

Dead Boy Detectives has a new home. The upcoming series had been slated for HBO Max but will now be released on Netflix instead. Greg Berlanti is behind the series based on the DC comics from Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner.

Viewers saw the three characters known as the Dead Boy Detectives appear in the third season of Doom Patrol, which aired on HBO Max. That series was cancelled and the current fourth season will end the series.

Per THR, Dead Boy Detectives does not fit with the content that DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran are building for DC movies and shows. That plan includes five inter-connected shows living alongside Peacemaker on HBO Max. It doesn’t help that Dead Boy Detectives would not air on HBO Max until 2024.

Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant) and Beth Schwartz (Arrow) are showrunners for the DC series.  Starring George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri, and Kassius Nelson, the series follows an unusual trio of sleuths in a series that is described as “a fresh take on a ghost story that explores loss, grief and death through the lens of [deceased teens] Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland … and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace. It’s a lot like a vintage detective series — only darker and on acid.”

A premiere date for Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix will be announced later.

What do you think? Are you planning to check out this DC drama once it debuts on Netflix? Have you seen the characters of the Doom Patrol series?
