Dr. Drew: Was the HLN Show Cancelled Because of Clinton Comments?

Dr. Drew TV show on HLN

Yesterday, we reported that HLN has cancelled Dr. Drew after five years on the air. Now, there’s speculation the series was cancelled because of the host’s recent comments about Hillary Clinton’s health, The Wrap reports.

Hosted by Dr. Drew Pinksy, the current affairs program features discussions about various health and addiction topics.

Earlier, Pinsky remarked that he was “gravely concerned” about Clinton’s health after examining her records. However, despite the controversy surrounding his statements, The Wrap says the decision to cancel the series was made weeks ago for unrelated reasons.

The show’s ratings have reportedly been quite poor for a while and the cable channel is moving toward programming more straight news.  Shows hosted by CNN’s Erica Hill, Michaela Pereira and Ashleigh Banfield are in the works.

According to the site, an HLN insider “mentioned that shows are not hastily canceled and pointed out that people lost their jobs because of the tough decision.”

From CNN EVP Ken Jautz:

Dr. Drew and his team have delivered more than five years of creative shows and I want to thank them for their hard work and distinctive programming.”

The final episode of Dr. Drew will air on September 22nd.

What do you think? Do you watch Dr. Drew? Why do you think the show was cancelled?
