What’s This TV Show About?

An HBO fantasy drama based on A Song of Ice and Fire, the best-selling George R.R. Martin book series, Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Liam Cunningham, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams. The large cast also includes Iain Glen, Alfie Allen, John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jerome Flynn, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Conleth Hill, Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Murray, Carice van Houten, Rory McCann, and Joe Dempsie, and more.

The drama is billed as an epic story of treachery and nobility in a savage world — a place where summers and winters can last for years and the lust for power is eternal. As the final installment, season eight is shrouded in secrecy; HBO hasn’t even released episode titles. Because Martin has not yet finished writing the books — The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring — the six-episode eighth season is largely made up of original content, but creators and executive producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have consulted with him on the ending.

Season Eight Ratings

Telly’s Take

Since it is all over but the shouting (and my long-awaited feast), we don’t have to wonder whether HBO will cancel or renew Game of Thrones for season nine — not that cancellation was an option. The network would take additional seasons if it could get them. Subscribe for free alerts on Game of Thrones related news.
