ABC is all in the family. It’s been revealed that the network has renewed The Goldbergs for two seasons — seasons five and six. This will keep the family sitcom on the air through the 2018-19 broadcast season.
Set in the 1980s, the sitcom revolves around a family from Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. The cast includes Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, and George Segal.
The Goldbergs has been a solid performer for ABC over the course of its four seasons. And while ratings have fallen, the show is still doing well. So far, season four is averaging a 1.73 rating in the 18-49 demo and 6.08 million viewers, making it one of the network’s highest-rated series for the 2016-2017 season.
According to Deadline, the two-year renewal came after some tough negotiations between ABC and sitcom studio Sony Pictures Television.
A spin-off of The Goldbergs, also from Sony, is not expected to move forward.
What do you think? Do you watch The Goldbergs? Are you happy it’s been renewed for both a fifth and sixth season?
