Last fall, fans had the luxury of knowing The Goldbergs TV show was already renewed for another installment on ABC. As the sixth season dawns, there has been no such reassurance, and the spin-off got a surprise pickup back in April. Does that mean the original series is nearly at its end? Will The Goldbergs be cancelled or renewed for season seven? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An ABC sitcom, The Goldbergs stars Hayley Orrantia, Troy Gentile, Sean Giambrone, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Sam Lerner, Patton Oswalt (narrator), and AJ Michalka, with George Segal and Jeff Garlin. The 1980s period comedy centers on the Goldberg family from Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. Youngest son Adam (Giambrone) videotapes his family’s craziness and provides commentary as an adult (Oswalt). In season six, the whole clan is back under one roof, and wedding bells are ringing.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival.
