Jane the Virgin: Season Four Ratings

Jane the Virgin TV show on The CW: season 4 ratings (cancel renew season 5?)

Last season, with Supergirl as its lead-in on Monday nights, the demo ratings for The CW’s Jane the Virgin TV show only dropped a little more than five percent, and its total ratings grew a skosh. In its fourth season, it now follows the network’s lowest rated TV series, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, on ratings-challenged Fridays. CW President Mark Pedowitz cited the satirical telenovela’s critical acclaim when it was picked up for a fourth installment, but rumor has it the episode order has already been cut. Since this season will leave it with a good syndication package, will Jane the Virgin be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned.

A CW comedy-drama Jane the Virgin stars Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas, Ivonne Coll, Jaime Camil, and Justin Baldoni. Although saving herself for marriage, Jane (Rodriguez) is accidentally impregnated via artificial insemination. Season four picks up three years later, with the widowed (and no longer virginal) Jane drawing upon her grief to write a book which recounts her love story with the late Michael (Bret Dier). She and Rafael (Baldoni) are now close friends, but unlike his other kids, their son Mateo (Elias Janssen) is full of mischief. In other news, Petra (Grobglas) and her twin sister Anezka wind up persons of interest in the murder of Scott (Wes Armstrong). **Status updates below.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

For comparisons: The third season of Jane the Virgin averaged a 0.35 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 957,000 total viewers.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
