LA to Vegas: Season Two; EPs Working to Keep FOX Comedy From Being Cancelled

La To Vegas TV show on FOX: season 2? (canceled or renewed?)

While a flight cancellation can mess up a whole day, a TV show cancellation leaves a lot of people unemployed and robs its fans of a season’s worth of enjoyment. FOX has not yet decided whether its LA to Vegas TV show should be cancelled or renewed for season two. Because no final decision has been made on the status, creator Lon Zimmet and his fellow executive producer Steve Levitan are hard at work on ideas for a second season and are reportedly determined to “make some noise,” if they do make a second season.

A FOX workplace comedy, LA to Vegas stars Dylan McDermott, Kim Matula, Ed Weeks, Nathan Lee Graham, Olivia Macklin, Peter Stormare, and Amir Talai. The TV series centers on a weekly Jackpot Airlines roundtrip flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Although it premiered in January with decent numbers and scored a bigger episode order a week later, viewership fell off from there.

Deadline reports:

When discussing the pending renewal decision on bubble freshman comedy LA to Vegas, the network chairman Dana Walden this morning noted that series creator/exec producer Lon Zimmet and executive producer Steve Levitan are currently working on Season 2 ideas and that “if we can’t find a way to make noise, we won’t do (a second season)” of the Dylan McDermott series.

I hear one of the top ideas that is being considered to create buzz around LA to Vegas‘s potential return is have series executive producer Will Ferrell appear in the Season 2 premiere.

Ferrell and McDermott previously starred together in the 2012 comedy feature The Campaign.

The move echoes Great News executive producer Tina Fey’s commitment to guest star in the opening Season 2 episodes, which last May helped secure the then-bubble midseason comedy a second-season renewal by NBC.

Great News, of course, was just cancelled after that second season, in which Fey did guest star.

LA to Vegas: A Look at the Ratings

The first season of LA to Vegas averaged a 0.73 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.32 million viewers. Of the 20 scripted FOX TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2018-19 television season, LA to Vegas ranks 16th in terms of its demo numbers and rises only one slot to 15th place, when sorted by average total viewers.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the LA to Vegas TV series? Should FOX cancel or renew this TV show for a second season?
