Lopez: Cancelled; No Season Three on TV Land

Lopez TV show on TV Land: canceled, no season 3 (cancel or renew?)

In bad news for George Lopez fans, TV Land has cancelled his Lopez TV show after two seasons. Given its Nielsen ratings, the cancellation of this semi-autobiographical single-camera comedy might be less of a surprise than was its June 2016 renewal. The series has already been removed from the network’s press site.

TV Land sitcom, Lopez stars the actor and comedian as himself. The cast also includes Anthony “Citric” Campos, Hayley Huntley, James Michael Connor, Maronzio Vance, and Ashley Zamora. It follows George, who wants to give back to the Latino community where he grew up, yet feels he fails to live up to its high expectations.

Lopez: A Look at the Ratings

The second season of Lopez averaged a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 319,000 viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 36% and down by 29%, respectively. With the exception of Nobodies, which is moving to Paramount Network (ie. the soon to-be-rebranded Spike TV), Lopez is ranked lower than the other TV Land TV shows we’ve been tracking.

Additionally, TV Land has also cancelled its late night comedy TV series, Throwing Shade, meaning Younger and Teachers are the only original series remaining on the Viacom-owned cable network.

Deadline has confirmed the Lopez TV show cancellation.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Lopez TV series? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for season three on TV Land?
