Lucifer: EP Didn’t Expect FOX to Approve the Finale Twist

Lucifer TV show on FOX: cancel or renew for season 2?

Did you see the season one finale of Lucifer last night? The series’ executive producer, Joe Henderson, recently spoke to TVInsider about the shocking season finale of the freshman FOX drama.

Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as the titular fallen angel, who moves from Hell to own a Los Angeles nightclub and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The series has already been renewed for a second season.

In the interview, Henderson said he was unsure if FOX would approve of the finale’s twist ending:

We were aiming for that final beat but we weren’t actually going to put it in [the last scene]. We were talking about cliffhangers and finding a way to really sell the ending and I told the network, ‘Well we have this idea, but it’s kind of crazy and we’re not sure how you guys are going to feel about it.’ And they were like ‘That’s it! That’s your finale!’”

He added that season two will feature the consequences of that twist (SPOILER: In the episode, Lucifer’s mother comes to Earth):

We have no plan to cast God right now, but to us mom is very much a character and one that we’re really excited to bring to life and one that will be walking the streets of Los Angeles.

It’s an awesome opportunity to get a really good actress since there’s so much flexibility within the parameters [of the character] and we’re hopefully going to provide them a really cool, fun role. Because if Lucifer takes after mom? Wow.”

What do you think? Do you watch Lucifer? What did you think about the season one finale?
