Mary + Jane: MTV Previews Upcoming Comedy Series

Mary + Jane TV show on MTV: season 1 (canceled or renewed?).

Are you ready for a new buddy comedy? (Sorry.) Below, watch two previews and check out photos from the new Mary + Jane TV show, premiering on MTV Monday, September 5, 2016 at 10:00pm ET/PT. The pot dealer sitcom comes from writing/directing team and executive producers Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont. In a move that shocked no one, Snoop Dogg (who naturally wrote and performs the theme song) and his production company — Merry Jane — have joined as executive producers.

Mary + Jane follows 20-something best friends, Jordan (Scout Durwood) and Paige (Jessica Rothe), living in L.A. The “ganjapreneurs” run an all-female weed delivery service. MTV says Mary + Jane is, “…filled with funny, raw and bizarre adventures. The show explores the uncharted territory as Los Angeles comes out of the Green Closet and gets into high and higher times.”

Is it just us, or are there an awful lot of new and upcoming marijuana related shows? Besides Mary + Jane, there is HBO‘s High Maintenance. Kathy Bates’ Disjointed got a straight-to-series order at Netflix, and John Malkovich has been cast in Humboldt, a drama featuring a marijuana crime family.

Season two of VICELAND‘s Weediquette premieres next week, and Action Bronson has two dope shows (sorry, not sorry). My editor adds that on Last Man Standing, Mike Baxter’s (Tim Allen) father Bud  (Robert Forster) opened a marijuana store in Colorado, after it was legalized, there.

This writer is starting to feel like the mistake she dated in college has taken over the television industry. File this under: I’m too old for this; I always have been.

Back to the subject at hand, here’s more on Mary + Jane from an earlier MTV press release:

“Mary + Jane”

Paige and Jordan may be weed dealers, but in their eyes they are entrepreneurs. Their dope delivery app is quickly gaining popularity with foodies, celebrities and – the most particular and crucial consumer – hipsters. This half-hour comedy takes a hilarious look at two girls living in LA: desperate to succeed, find a little romance, and keep their clients happy and high – all with the least amount of effort possible. Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (“Can’t Hardly Wait”) serve as Executive Producers. Television 360 (“Game of Thrones”) is Executive Producer.
