Impeachment is in the air. ABC has cancelled The Mayor TV show, after one season. THR reports the remaining episodes**, of 13 ordered, have been pulled from the schedule and will be replaced with Modern Family reruns, for now. Although production will wrap, the studio intends to shop The Mayor around to other takers.
An ABC sitcom, The Mayor stars Brandon Micheal Hall, Lea Michele, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears, Yvette Nicole Brown, and David Spade. It centers on hip-hop artist Courtney Rose (Hall) who runs for office to create some buzz around his music career. While he wins in a stunner, The Mayor never created much buzz among Nielsen households.
The Mayor: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of The Mayor is averaging a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.94 million viewers. Of the scripted ABC TV shows we’re currently tracking, it ranks 13th in terms of its demo performance and 14th where average total viewership is concerned.
The cancellation is not exactly a surprise. Back in early November, Brown tried to rally the audience of the low-rated freshman comedy. Not long after that, the Alphabet Network ordered three additional scripts, but that was seen as a stopgap measure, to retain the cast, while they figured out the show’s ultimate fate.
** NOTE: THR says, “The series has aired seven of its 13 episodes and will wrap production.” According to our tracking, as well as that on IMDb, nine of the 13 episodes have actually aired.
