Airing Wednesdays at 8pm, The Middle has been averaging a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.58 million total viewerrs. Year-to-year, Patricia Heaton and company are up by 8% in the demo (vs a 2.4 rating) and 5% in viewership (vs 8.18 million.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which ranks the network’s shows based on their relative demo numbers, The Middle has a “B” grade and is the sixth-highest scripted show on the network.
Modern Family is easily the network’s most successful scripted show. The sitcom’s demo is actually 45% higher than Grey’s Anatomy, it’s closest rival for the top slot.
Season three of Modern Family has averaged a 5.2 rating in the demographic with 12.31 million viewers. Year-to-year, that’s up by 14% in the demo (vs a 4.5 rating) and 10% in viewers (vs 11.17 million).
On our ratings report card, it’s no surprise that Modern Family gets an “A++” grade.
With this kind of success, one has to wonder if ABC might start pushing for a spin-off, ala Private Practice.
ABC announces their 2012-13 schedule next week. It seems unlikely that ABC would move either of these shows to a different timeslot or night but we’ll know for sure on Tuesday.
