Moonbeam City: Cancelled by Comedy Central; No Season Two

Comedy Central has cancelled the Moonbeam City TV series after its first season. The animated cop show parody was not listed among yesterday’s announced renewals. Per Deadline, that is because Comedy Central has decided to pass on ordering a second season. The first 10-episode season premiered September 16, 2015.  The first season and TV series finale episode, “The Wedding of Rad (Lie),” pictured above, aired December 9th.

Despite the cancellation, the voice cast of Moonbeam City won’t be out of work, for long. It includes such big names as Rob Lowe, Elizabeth Banks, Kate Mara, and Will Forte. Moonbeam City was created and executive produced by Scott Gairdner, and executive produced by Olive Bridge Entertainment’s Will Gluck and Richard Schwartz. Aside from starring, Lowe also served as a producer on the series.

In the story, Moonbeam City Detective Dazzle Novak’s (Lowe) desire to serve is almost as strong as his desire to have his sex drive temporarily sated. He works with junior tech Chrysalis Tate (Mara).

Novak’s no-nonsense Chief, Pizzaz Miller (Banks), may be sexy, but she cramps his style. Since his rival, Rad Cunningham (Forte), takes every opportunity to undermine him, Novak may have put his nose to the grindstone and accomplish some real police work for the citizens of Moonbeam City.

Deadline says that the Moonbeam City series, “…struggled to attract a wide audience, with its first season, which aired in late 2015 behind Comedy Central’s juggernaut South Park, [and was only] able to hold onto about 20% of its big lead-in. Moonbeam City also received mixed reviews from critics though it landed an Annie nomination.”
