Revenge, Suburgatory: Get Full Seasons; Happy Endings: More Scripts

Suburgatory full seasonThe alphabet network has given the go-ahead for a full season of 22 episodes for two its two Wednesday night series, Revenge and Suburgatory. In addition, ABC has commissioned six additional scripts for Happy Endings.

Four episodes of Revenge have aired so far and have averaged a 2.8 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.75 million viewers. After hitting a series low with a 2.4 rating last week, the drama popped back up to a 2.7 last night. It’s currently the eighth-highest rated scripted series on the network (out of 13) and ABC’s best performing new drama. The network needs new hour programming and this appears to be their best shot at finding one right now.

After airing just two episodes, the network’s taking more of a risk with Suburgatory. The first episode attracted a 3.3 rating in the demo with 9.8 million. This week’s fell just 6% to a 3.1 in the demo and 9.11 million. While the week-to-week attrition is positive, it’s hard to know if the show’s performance has evened out yet. For now, it’s ABC’s fourth-highest rated show and is doing significantly better than now-cancelled Better with You did last year.

Happy Endings was on the bubble last May and ended up being renewed for a second season. Though the ratings have been solid (averaging a 3.0 rating with 6.97 million) and better than last year’s, the sitcom loses about half of the Modern Family lead-in audience. The additional scripts order will give the network more time to make a decision about the series’ future but this is a positive sign nonetheless.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear about these orders? Do you think any or all of these shows will be around this time next fall?
