To say the Peacock Network hit the Nielsen ratings jackpot with The Voice is an understatement. And in the summertime, America’s Got Talent has been a solid performer. Now, NBC is flipping the script on talent competitions with its new Songland TV show. Instead of finding new performers, the series enlists A-Listers to help them find the next unsung hero. It’s got a good beat, but can you dance to it? Will Songland be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A new kind of NBC talent competition, on Songland, successful singers are looking for unknown songwriters to pen their next hit. In each episode, four songwriters perform their original tracks before successful musical producers Ester Dean, Ryan Tedder, and Shane McAnally, and the guest artist of the week. The artist then narrows the field to three writers, each of whom works with one of the producers to arrange their song to serve the artist. By episode’s end, the artist selects a song to record for a global release. In the first season, guest artists include: Jonas Brothers, John Legend, Charlie Puth, Meghan Trainor, will.i.am, OneRepublic, Kelsea Ballerini, Macklemore, Aloe Blacc, Old Dominion, and Leona Lewis.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/12 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Songland TV series? Should NBC cancel or renew this TV show for season two?
*9/10/19 update: NBC has renewed the Songland series for a second season for 2020.
