Just four months ago, the show was renewed through 2013 and now we know that Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Cartman, and the rest will be around for a total 20 seasons, through the year 2016.
Some fans were concerned that South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone were getting ready to move on — especially in light of their success with their Broadway hit, The Book of Mormon. But, it seems nothing could be further from the truth.
In a joint statement, they said, “Comedy Central has been our home for 15 years and we love working there. South Park is a blast and we can’t wait to make more.” Under the new deal, they’ll continue writing, directing and editing every episode. The show is currently averaging about 3.5 million viewers per installment.
There’s no word on how many episodes Comedy Central has actually ordered. If Parker and Stone keep creating 14 installments per season, South Park will reach their 293rd episode by the end of season 20.
Season 15 of South Park wraps tonight at 10pm on Comedy Central.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that South Park will be around for more than 300 episodes? How long should the animated series go on?
